The Rapid City Bike Trail was built as part of the park system installed after the deadly Rapid City Floods of 1972 to prevent development along Rapid Creek. The most picturesque part of this trail passes through Canyon Lake Park, home to a lovely gazebo and pretty fishing areas.

On the west side, the trail starts at Star of the West Sports Complex on the east side of Rapid City and ends near Canyon Lake Little League Complex on the west side. It features exercise stations along the way where you can use static equipment to work different muscles.

The bike trail also passes by Storybook Island, which has kid-friendly fairy tale-themed equipment and lovely gardens.
