Neist Point Lighthouse is one of the most famous lighthouses in Scotland, and can be found on the western tip of the pretty Isle of Skye near Glendale. Built in 1900, the lighthouse was manned until an automated light system was installed.
The lighthouse is 43 meters above sea level and can be seen for up to 16 nautical miles offshore. You cannot tour the lighthouse, but it’s fun to walk around the outside of the fenced-in grounds to see different views of the iconic structure.
The lighthouse is not the highlight of this hike - it’s the views along the way. The hike down to the lighthouse yields views of the surrounding cliffs and the Sea of Hebrides, which is part of the North Atlantic Ocean. Be sure to pull off and walk the various spurs along the trail for some amazing views of the surrounding sea.
