This trail runs along the beachfront in Hilo, Hawaii, through parks and under palm trees. It’s truly a path through paradise.
We started out just east of Coconut Island and ran 1.5 miles to the west, out to Coconut Island, through the Queen Liliuokalani Gardens, and along the Bayfront Beach Park. Some of this trail runs along a busy street or is part of a shared use pathway but we found it possible to avoid running too close to traffic by taking driveways and side spurs - just be sure you watch for cars!
Hilo Bay is a beautiful body of water with colorful boats, interesting rocks and reefs, and dramatic framing with Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa towering over the city. The city of Hilo has done a great job planting gorgeous greenery and maintaining its parks so that this run seemed more like a sightseeing trip than a 5K. We highly recommend it!
