This trail starts from Harbach Centennial Park just across from the Custer Visitor Center. You climb 205 steps up the Custer Skywalk to the spectacular Sunrise Point. There, you are treated to breathtaking views of the hills surrounding Custer from an observation deck that contains an interpretive display showing you which peaks you are likely seeing .
You can head back the way you came to round out your beautiful half-mile walk. If you're a disc golf fan, one of the most beautiful disc golf courses in the state can be accessed from this trail. Or, you can turn left on the road at the base of the stairs and continue on to Big Rock Lookout. Big Rock Lookout features 360 degrees of spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. One you have looked your fill, you can follow the signs for Big Rock Trail. Go north on 8th Street, left/west on Gordon Street, and you will see the Harbach Centennial Park parking lot. The loop takes around 35 minutes depending on your pace and number of stops. Either way, your efforts will be well-rewarded at the top! |
