Map: https://chicagocompletestreets.org/sample-page-2/cycling/ Know Before You Go: Not all bike trails are safe to run at sunrise in a big city. I ran this one at 6 a.m. and saw many other runners and cyclists, including uniformed police officers. Length: I did a 3-mile out-and-back run. Time: 3 miles took me approximately 30 minutes. Dog-friendly: Yes. Dogs must be leashed. Kid-friendly: Yes, but watch kids near the water.
I visited Chicago for a conference and noticed this paved trail that ran past the front of the hotel on the other side of the channel. This run was the highlight of my trip.
Starting at the downtown Sheraton, I ran this paved trail as the sun was coming up over Lake Michigan. The sunrise seemed to set the water on fire.
This run heads past the Navy Pier, the docks and a city park, and gives a great view of the Chicago skyline.
