Trail: Balloch Castle Country Park, Balloch, Scotland Website: https://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/lochlomond/balloch-castle.shtml Know Before You Go: The midges fly as fast as you run after dark, and they’re always hungry. It’s easy to take a wrong turn on these trails, so using GPS is recommended if you’re on a tight timeline. I used the Walk Highlands app and it was great. Length: 2.25 miles Time: 1 hour Difficulty: Easy Terrain: Paved, aggregate Dog-Friendly: Yes Kid-Friendly: Yes
Our stay near Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park was a lovely combination of hiking, walking, and running - all within view of Loch Lomond.
This trail starts in Balloch and runs along the east side of the river as you head north from Balloch. Follow the signs for the gardens, take a loop to view the beautiful plantings, then head back out to follow the signs for the castle. After you pass the beautiful ruins of the castle, you journey through a beautiful wooded area with many trail spurs that can get confusing without the use of a navigational app or a map. Eventually the trail curves west for your first views of Loch Lomond. Head along the lake to the south, and you eventually come back to where you started.
This is a great trail for a down-day walk or a fun run!
