Know Before You Go: The trail near the top can be steep and difficult. Also, this is a VERY popular trail with multiple ways to access the summit.

Time: 2 - 2.5 hours
Difficulty: Moderate
Terrain: Rocky near the top, dirt and grass trails otherwise.
Dog-Friendly: Yes, under control of owner.
Kid-Friendly: Yes


Arthur’s Seat is an ancient extinct volcano that is the main peak in a group of hills in Holyrood Park in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The hike is accessible from many parts of the city so is very popular - and crowded. It gets pretty steep and rocky near the summit, so hiking shoes or boots are recommended.

​The summit offers spectacular views of the Edinburgh area, including and the Firth of Forth.
